Swan’s Reign Supreme in the Sydney Hobart
Congratulations to Colin Buffin and his team on board Swan 62 FD ‘Uxorious IV’ for finishing 3rd in IRC 2 and 1st place in ORCi 2! They crossed the line in 27th.
Colin Buffin said: “We have been slowly, very slowly, sailing around the world. We left the UK in October 2011.”
During their travels, Buffin and crew have contested the Cowes Dinard and Rolex Fastnet races, the 2011 Swan Europeans and then sailed across the Atlantic for the 2012 Caribbean 600.
Our congratulations also to Swan 65 ‘Kings’ Legend’ finishing sixth in IRC 3 and to Swan 65 ‘UGG Australia’.
Swan 65’s have an impressive pedigree. Swan 65 Hull #1 of 40 was built in 1972 for the first ever Whitbread Round the World Race (now the Volvo Ocean Race). All of the 40 Swan 65s built are still in service and have completed hundreds of circumnavigations.

Marcus finishes 2nd on Ragamuffin
Also competing in the 2015 Sydney Hobart was Vicsail salesman Marcus Ashley-Jones onboard ‘Ragamuffin’. They finished second after a heart stopping battle up the Derwent with (eventual) third place getter ‘Rambler’. Marcus commented; “This year’s Sydney Hobart was an epic adventure with some great mates, including some of the best and most challenging sailing I’ve experienced. Finishing second on line made it all the more sweeter.”
Do not miss this report from Vicsail friend and ‘Ragamuffin’ crew member Jack Macartney for all the gripping details, “As we lay flat on our side in 40+ knots of wind, crew members hanging in the air, torrential rain pelting us like thousands of mini daggers to the face and in the pitch black of an angry night, I was confronted by the real and present danger of the race…” Click here to read the full report.
