This week I travelled up to Northern Finland, the home of Nautor’s Swan and the location of their manufacturing and launching facility known as the BTC (Boatbuilding technology centre).
It is always a great experience to come to Pietarsaari, not only to catch up with great working friends at Nautor’s, but to see first-hand this amazing factory and the superb boats it produces.
Nautor’s employ over 300 skilled employees who produce a range of yachts from 36 to 125 ft in length… 15 models which include high performance racing yachts, superb blue water cruising yachts and now, even a motor yacht!
Arriving in Spring allows visitors a great experience to not only see yachts in build, but to see the boats in the water as it’s now the busy launching and commissioning period.
Over winter yachts are produced and stored until the snow and ice clear, then its full steam ahead to deliver the yachts to the water and their owners!
Apart from the range of Swan 48’s and 58’s being launched or in build, there is the latest model Swan 55 just about ready to launch plus there are 3 larger units in various stages of fitout (65, 78 and 98) and a new 108 in primary build. Lots to see!
The new Swan 55 is an amazing yacht. This model was of course inspired by the very successful Swan 54 (There is a 54 in build right now- number 19!) which is world regarded as the ultimate Blue Water Cruising Yacht in the size range. Nautor coupled again with German Frers to take the 54 DNA and inject it into a modern hull and deck design to create the next generation in Blue Water Cruiser!
11 units of the model have already been sold off the plans and the official launch of the new 55 will be at Cannes Boat show in September this year.
I look forward to sharing my experience with you all at the upcoming Sydney International Boatshow, where we will be displaying a Swan 48 and will have plenty of great information on the rest of the Swan range. We will also be travelling to Cannes in September so would welcome you to the South of France to experience the new Swan 55.
Bookings for inspections at both The Sydney International Boat Show and the Cannes Boat Show are essential, so please get in touch to make an appointment.
